One of the things I love about southeastern Arizona is the variety and abundance of wildlife to be found just outside your back door. It’s no wonder the animal fetish necklace is a style of jewelry dating back to ancient times.
This simple but stunning necklace provides a modern take on that ancient style, using sterling silver animal fetishes and sterling heishi beads rather than the traditional carved stone and shell. The variety of animal fetishes is accented by traditional Navajo style sterling silver stamped beads and tiny turquoise nuggets.
THE MATCHING EARRINGS ARE SOLD SEPARATELY, but complete the ensemble perfectly, with sterling beads and hummingbird fetish. You can find the earrings here:
The necklace measures 24 inches long, with each of the sterling fetishes averaging around 1/2 inch. It closes with a simple sterling silver hook and eye.
THE STONE MEDICINE:
In traditional thought, Turquoise unites the earth and sky, bringing together male and female energies. Turquoise is a stone of “earth-grounding” and is valuable in preventing one from losing touch with the conscious mind during deep meditations. It provides strength and protection. Did you know that it is said that turquoise connects with its owner and will grow pale in color if the wearer becomes ill, sometimes losing all color if the wearer passes away, only to regain color when worn again by a new, healthy owner.
