Nothing says earth to me more than the look, smell, and sound of fall leaves. There is something so elemental and primal about fall. Old life making way for new growth, but doing so in a spectacular array of colors and textures.
This necklace attempts to capture some of that sense and beauty with these lovely focal Red Jasper leaves. The leaves are nestled between some beautiful Raku fired tube beads, deep blue apatite beads, selenite desert rose beads, and drilled juniper berries, known as “ghost beads” among the Navajo. A line of small Czech glass beads lays at the neck for comfort. It closes with a handmade ceramic and copper toggle.
The necklace measures approximately 24 inches long. The focal leaves are each approximately 3/4 inches wide by 2 inches high.

Ghost beads are actually dried juniper berries. The juniper berries are collected after ants have found the berries on the ground. They nibble off one end and eat the inside of the berry. The berry is then hollow and dry. Sometimes the berries are lightly smoked to further preserve them. A hole is made in the other end by artisans and then strung.
